Jackson health system is a healthcare facility that is located at Miami-Dade country. It serves the residents close to their homes. It has 10 primary care centers, 16 school based programs and two Car –A- Vans that are used to visit every location. There are seven locations. Jackson health system has liaised with the University of Miami’s Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine to provide care and treatment for the sick and the injured even if the patients are not in a position to pay. Jackson provides wide range of facilities which includes: Ryder Trauma Center, Holtz Children’s Hospital, UM/JM Burn Center, Newborn Intensive Care Center, Jackson Transplant Center and Jackson Rehabilitation Hospital.
The hospital was started early in 1918 and it has grown from a 13 bed community hospital to an internationally recognized medical system. It has efficiently served residents of Miami for more than 90 years by providing them with world class medical care. Miami residents have declared that Jackson is not only a health centre but also a source of wealth in their lives.
Jackson has been providing health education and programs for international patients and also it fosters an environment for medical education and research. In order to effectively provide their services, Jackson has joined a growing wave of companies across the countries that are embracing more environmentally friendly practices. It has joined green programs and goals that will help them go an extra mile
Jackson health facility has provided its residents with adequate heath care but due to population increase, it will be of great important to have a family clinic where the residents will be educated and at the same time get information on how to care for their families. Renovating Jackson health system and embracing modern facilities will be of great help as peoples lives will be saved in a very high rate.
A counseling program can be introduced to Jackson Memorial Hospital and this will help the residents to deal with their daily problems that most of them affect their health life. This facility will benefit big population of South Florida community and their needs will be met as they will get the most comprehensive network of quality healthcare providers. Jackson Memorial Hospital has adequate health facilities and by introducing counseling to all visiting patients will make them be more efficient and admirable to the whole community. The program will serve approximately 41,000 families that are in need. Many families in Florida are faced by many calamities which leave them frustrated and many of them succumb to these.
Counseling services are necessary for people with different ailments as they get to understand their positions well and this helps them to recover quickly. Specialists in counseling understand that when one is traumatized or one is diagnosed with a chronic illness, it can be stressful for you and your family. To help the residents manage the same, counseling and support service for several illnesses will be of great help.
The trained nurses and therapists will assist the resident through the following programs: cardiac rehabilitation, breast care counseling, diabetes counseling, stroke counseling, asthma counseling and through heart savers program. A counselor in this case will handle the following:
Organization problem
Personal problem
Environmental problem
Behavioral problem
Emotional problem
An outpatient addiction counseling services should be introduced which include individual family and group counseling for those with drug, alcohol or gambling concerns. All counseling services should be free and confidential. With grant monies Jackson Memorial Hospital will adequately provide managed healthcare services to all members of the society.
A hospital disaster plan facility will also be required to provide policies for both internal and external disaster situations that may affect patients, visitors and the whole community. A command centre should be set up where there will be security desk to handle and coordinate all internal communications. All departments will therefore report to this office and employees will be called as soon as possible. Whenever there will be a disaster, the person in charge will assign a nurse who will answer all radio calls from this station.
A visitor control centre can be set up in front lobby where family of casualties will wait until they are notified about their patient’s condition. Telephone lines can also be made available for both outgoing and incoming calls. Also additional radio communications to all departments within the hospital should be enabled. Extra supplies should also be obtained from purchasing personnel through runners. Administrators should also be there to check with authorities and obtain additional information about the disaster and ask for help from the police or from the public if possible. Admitting office should also be there and its role will include the following:
Assign responsible person to switchboard as soon as possible.
Department head or designee will call in their own personnel as needed after having reported to the Command Center.
Notify Emergency Communications Center if in any case internal disaster is involved.
After notification of disaster by authorized person, you are responsible for sounding the “Orange Alert” alarm.
Never accept routine non-emergency admissions except OB’s.
One should refer all public information calls and press to desk in Reception Area.
Direct press to the restaurant.
Call local clergy if management is okay.
It is important for Jackson Memorial Hospital to incorporate the above facilities for the welfare of its patients.
